July 02, 2012 15:40 IST The latest book by journalist Anuj Dhar on the mystery of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's death/disappearance points to a discouraging role by Pranab Mukherjee [ Images ] in resolving it, writes Vicky Nanjappa. India's Biggest Cover-up, the just-released book authored by Anuj Dhar is expected to set the cat among the pigeons. The insight into the Subhas Chandra Bose mystery relies on official records, bulk of them still security classified in violation of democratic norms, to invalidate the air crash theory about Netaji's death. Dr Laxmi Sehgal - Commander of INA Fauj - Jhasi regiment passes away at 97 today only to make us wonder what the honour and respect the nation's new rulers have had bestowed on her. Her name is now the epitome of medical service.Tlll her last days she was serving and treating her poor patients. The nation could not honour her beyond a Padmabibhusan. The ruling NDA though was supportive of INA movement but Laxmi Sehgal's presidency candidature on behalf of Communist lobby of India did not go well with the NDA who had the maximum votes in their bag and lost it miserably not for her fault but for lack of gratitude of the power loving Indians at the corridors of legislature. “The fight will go on,” said Captain Lakshmi Sahgal one day in 2006, sitting in her crowded Kanpur clinic where, at 92, she still saw patients every morning. She was speaking on camera to Singeli Agnew, a young filmmaker from the Graduate School of Journalism, Berkeley, who was making a documentary on her l

Was Netaji alive in 1946?

Was Netaji alive in 1946? 19 April 2012 rajinder puri THE mystery surrounding the last days of Subhash Chandra Bose has been fiercely debated for decades. The debate is likely to revive shortly. New circumstantial evidence has surfaced to suggest that Netaji was alive in 1946. Two commissions of inquiry probing Netaji’s death stated that in 1944 he died in a plane crash in Taiwan. The Shah Nawaz Commission set up in 1956 concluded that Netaji had died in that plane crash. There was public criticism of this theory. To allay public misgivings the government in 1970 appointed the Justice GD Khosla Commission to probe Netaji’s death. It endorsed the plane-crash theory. The public’s disbelief did not abate. In 1999, the government was compelled to set up the Justice MK Mukherjee Commission. This Commission ruled out death due to the air crash, stating that no plane crash had occurred. But the Commission for want of evidence, failed to establish whether Netaji had lived beyond 1944. The
